amarum amarinil adhikan ayanum ari
     avarum veruva varum ...... athikALam

Devas, their king Indra, Lord Brahma, and Lord Vishnu were terrified when deadly poison came from milky ocean.

adhanai athakaraNa vidhana! paripuraNa!
     Amai anavar karaNa! ...... akilEsa

Oh! One who dispelled their mental agony! One who reside in the hearts filled with inner contentment! Oh! Lord of all the worlds!

nimira aruL charaNa! nipidam adhena una
     nimira samira maya! ...... niyamAya

Oh! One whose sacred feet bestow divine wisdom for us to reach great heights!

When deadly poison threatened to engulf everyone, considering it as the prime duty,


Nimidam adhanil uNavala siva suthavara
     ninadhu padhavi thara ...... varu vAyE

In the mere blink of an eye and with the speed of the wind, Lord Siva consumed that deadly poison, You are his Son! Please come and grant me the grace to attain your glorious abode.

Samarasa amara sura asura vidharapara!
     saradha viratha ayil ...... viduvOnE!

Oh! The One who graciously hurled the *Vel*—the weapon of true divine wisdom
at the Asuras, the enemies of the united and noble Devas!

Performing a graceful sacred dance to the rhythmic
sounds matching the sounds of instruments at the war field,

upon the devotees of our lineage! You are the sacred Son of Uma Devi,
daughter of the Himavan, Oh, our Lord!
